In this Explore blog post I consider my lucky seven pick of the top accommodation options for cyclists on the Isle of Wight—from yurts and campsites, to hotels and pubs. These are my seven favourites that will welcome cyclists with open arms and provide you with a great base from which to explore.
The lucky seven includes two farms, two hotels, two campsites and a country pub…
The Garlic Farm, Newchurch
The Garlic Farm offers a wide variety of fantastic self-catering accommodation; from cottages and converted stable blocks, to a cluster of five family fun yurts. All the options are beautifully maintained and spotlessly clean, with private parking and easy access. The on-site restaurant serves exceptional breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, and there is plenty on the farm site to keep children (and adults) amused. This centrally located farm is a perfect base for couples, groups, and families.
Tapnell Farm Park, Freshwater
Another converted farm, but this one in the West Wight. Tapnell Farm has an impressive array of accommodation options; including farmhouses, yurts, and eco-pods. Tom’s EcoLodge has evolved exponentially over the last few years, and its success is down to the superb offering at Tapnell—including the Farm Park, The Cow Restaurant, and the lodgings. This is a wonderful place to take the family, or a group of enthusiastic cyclists.
The Royal Hotel, Ventnor
For those looking for a bit of luxury and pampering, very few hotels come close to The Royal in Ventnor. This cliff-top residence offers a truly boutique hotel experience; with individual and characterful rooms, as well as exceptional food and hospitality. You are in for a treat if you can rest up here after a ride.
The George Hotel, Yarmouth
This is a second luxurious hotel stay possibility on the Isle of Wight. It offers beautiful rooms and fantastic food, along with a terrific location in the village of Yarmouth. Close to the ferry, local shops and pubs, and the starting point of many of my Isle of Wight Cycling Routes; there is a lot to like about this unique hotel.
The White Mouse Inn, Chale
For a traditional country pub B&B experience, the White Mouse at Chale is an excellent choice. It has a broad choice of double and family rooms, and a superb restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Another top thing about this characterful pub is its location—at the southern tip of the Island, and halfway round the Randonnée route if you were starting at Cowes or Fishbourne.
Adgestone Camping and Caravanning Site
Of all the campsites on the Island, this is one of the best for cyclists. It is just off the Randonnée route and supplies a quiet, calm, and welcoming site for families and groups. The site has a swimming pool, a small shop, and laundry facilities; supplying the necessities for a base from which to explore and return to when you want to relax.
Grange Farm Campsite, Brighstone
Out west, this campsite is a beautiful place to stay. Perched on the top of the cliff, overlooking the English Channel; it offers stunning panoramic views from every pitch. The site takes a bit of a battering in a strong gale, but it does also feature camping pods if you need to shelter in some solid accommodation. There is a well stocked village shop in Brighstone, and nearby Hulverstone has a good country pub. This is the perfect spot from which to ride the endless quiet lanes of the West Wight.
Hopefully this selection of Isle of Wight accommodation options provides you with a great choice for an overnight stay on a weekend or week long cycling trip to the Island.
