DeFeet Introduces Socks For Health Care Workers and Medical Professionals
DeFeet announced it has completed development on a new sock design, the Decompressor Medical. Made specifically for those who work in the medical and health care field, the Decompressor Medical has features to help medical workers deal with the unique demands of the workplace.
As the Covid 19 virus spreads, DeFeet has readied it’s first shipments of Decompressor Medical socks. “With our long history making socks and accessories for endurance sports like cycling and running, we knew we could craft socks that help medical workers be more comfortable in their jobs,” said Shane Cooper, Founder and Chief Sockologist of DeFeet. “We pushed hard throughout 2020 to develop socks that could also help keep our health workers MORE COMFORTABLE and safer.” Cooper added “We experimented with a lot of fit and fiber combinations, and we found what we were looking for.” DeFeet chose anti-microbial, anti-fungal Copper Zinc yarn from Copptech. “Copper and Zinc have amazing natural scientific properties,” says Cooper, “Which makes these socks even more ideal for health care application.”
While many companies joined the fight against Covid by switching their production to make facemasks, DeFeet chose to stay with its core competency: knitting socks at its own factory in Hildebran, North Carolina. The choice was based on where the company believed it could contribute the most. “Long workdays, standing and walking for hours at a time, that’s really hard on the feet and legs. That fatigue affects the whole body and our ability to focus on helping others,” Cooper said. The Decompressor Medical has a lightweight sheer knee high fit using DeFeet’s world renowned Aireator® mesh fabric. The result is a subtle compression that supports the entire lower leg, making it better suited for the rigors of the medical profession.
The all new DeFeet DeCompressor employs comfortable 15-20mmHG compression providing all day support to help keep medical workers comfortable. The natural Copper Zinc yarns hold feet in a healthier, low-moisture environment. Decompressor Medical is available in 3 lengths and 4 sizes. DeFeet is known worldwide for quality and covers every pair of medical socks with a Five Year Satisfaction Guarantee. The company is even offering the Decompressor Medical direct to medical professionals for 50% off the retail price for a limited time. MSRP is $40.00 and currently $20.00 to those with a medical card. There is a five pair limit per customer.
Quotes from medical professionals:
“These DeFeet DeCompressor over-the-calf socks are the best product I have found in over 40 years of using this kind of sock for support during long hours of medical care in ERs, ORs, and clinics. The amount of compression seems perfect. My legs are not swollen, they do not feel fatigued at the end of shift, and these socks are comfortable throughout the workday, or work night. The new technology developed since I first began wearing this kind of sock is impressive. I appreciate the benefits of these socks, including that they do not seem to trap heat, my legs stay comfortably cool during wear. Their copper-zinc component adds to their health benefits and helps to prevent odors.” Dr. Nick Frankel.
“Nurses and healthcare workers have been tireless heroes through this pandemic. They spend most of their time in motion. We are so fortunate to have a local manufacturer who is making a comfortable compression sock using Copper Zinc. This sock contributes to healthier, happier legs and feet. Try them!” Allister Morris, RN, MSN, NEA-BC.

New $90 Shimano IC1 Shoes Set the Standard for Indoor Cycling Shoe Comfort, Ventilation and Pedal Compatibility
Purpose-built for the booming indoor cycling community, Shimano delivers the mic-drop of indoor shoes with its new $90 IC1 shoes. A complete mesh upper construction delivers both unmatched ventilation and quick drying properties while Shimano’s new Cross Strap Closure and Adaptable Arch Support wrap the foot so riders can optimize personal fit and stability. Originally designed for studio use and the rental-shoe market, Shimano’s new budget-friendly IC1 (SH-IC100) shoes are as apt for the studio as they are in your own workout hub at home.
● Adaptable Fit, Ultimate Comfort
The IC1’s mesh upper construction provides exceptional breathability as well as a sock like fit that cradles the foot for optimized comfort and stability. Providing support and structure to this soft upper design is Shimano’s new Cross Strap Closure System that utilizes a single strap to control the shoe’s volume so riders can dial in their perfect fit.
The strap travels across the toe box and then reaches over the shoe’s instep, delivering rigidity and structure to help hold the foot in place while maximizing comfort. Additional reinforcement comes with Shimano’s Adaptable Arch Support that works in coordination with the Cross Strap Closure System. Pulling the strap to tighten the shoe, the upper wraps around the foot and enhances the shoe’s arch support for a truly personalized fit.
● Mixed-Last Sizing for Men and Women
Shimano introduces a new mixed-last sizing design for targeted fit based on foot size rather than wholly focusing on gender. Smaller IC1 shoes (size 36-41) feature a narrower last similar to other Shimano women’s specific fits while larger shoes (42-50) offer a wider last closer to men’s or unisex designs. It’s also the only true indoor cycling shoe available up to size 50 (US size 14).
● Pumped Up Ventilation
Designed for indoor cycling, where conditions quickly become sweltering with the heat and humidity of a packed studio class, the Shimano IC1 shoes deliver class-leading ventilation thanks to a ventilated outsole design. The front of the sole features an intake port that channels air down the center of the shoe toward an exhaust port at the back. The IC1’s shoe’s mesh upper construction also promotes airflow and ventilation across the top of the shoe and offers quick drying capabilities – an important feature for cycling studios or riders who routinely jump on the bike for their daily workouts.
● More Pedal and Cleat Compatibility
Also new for the IC1 shoes is expanded pedal-compatibility with both 2- and 3-bolt (SPD and SPD-SL) cleat mounts. While SPD pedals remain the standard across the industry, indoor studios and at-home bikes now offer both pedal options. With the IC1 shoes, riders can easily set up or switch their pedaling system to suit different studios or indoor bike compatibilities.
Whether using SPD or SPD-SL pedals, the IC1 shoes offer great walking stability. The wide, stable heel pad keeps riders planted on the ground when crossing the treacherous, slick studio floors pre-and post-workout. Additionally, the snug, slipper-like fit hugs your foot for added stability on and off the bike.
Just in time for the New Years fitness buzz, Shimano delivers the bling with “oil-slick-black” IC1 (SH-IC100) indoor shoes that are available immediately in stores and online here: https://shimanoindoor.com/
