Festka: A Ten-Year Ride
Festka celebrates ten years since its founding with three limited X anniversary edition bikes.
Czech producer of high-end, carbon road bicycle frames Festka is celebrating the 10-years anniversary of its founding in 2010 by delivering limited editions of ten fully built bicycles from each of its bestselling models: Scalatore, Rover and Doppler.
“Although the first-ever Festka frame, completed in February 2011, was an ambitious shot at a stainless steel frame, it was only a few months later that our first carbon bike saw the light of day. With carbon gradually becoming the predominant material used to build our bikes, we decided to commemorate our anniversary by celebrating this amazing material whose Festka incarnation looks like no one else’s,” says Festka co-founder Michael Moureček.
After a four-year break from cycling following the early end to his professional career, Moureček’s interest in bicycles was rekindled when his family presented him with money to buy a new bike for his birthday. Michael’s close friend Ondřej Novotný was there when the offer was made, and being a keen hobby cyclist himself, he decided to accompany Michael on his quest to find his next bike.
It soon became clear that no frame-builders, let alone any mass-production companies, would be able to meet expectations. And that’s how Festka was born. If you know what you want and can’t find anyone to make it, then you have to make it yourself. First, the company was a garage operation, producing bespoke frames made of steel and aluminum and experimenting with carbon. One team change and a daring pre-sell project later, Festka began making two hundred carbon frames of its ZERO model – the first of their own designs made as part of a production run. However, the tragic loss of a key team member led the company to start yet again on an entirely new level – becoming a vanguard among producers of handmade bicycles.
“Our goal was to design bicycles that would perform without compromise,” adds Ondřej Novotný.
Festka ONE was the first frame made by a team assembled based on a new principle: everybody at Festka must be the best in their field. Period. This path led to many crucial collaborations with companies and institutions ranging from the Czech Technical University in Prague to the European Space Agency, but perhaps most importantly it brought Festka to the doors of CompoTech – one of the world’s leading processors of carbon fiber, who is today a co-developer and supplier of woven carbon fiber tubes for Festka frames.
The Festka of today is a company on the cutting edge of bicycle development. Under the management of its founders, Festka partners with top manufacturers of advanced materials and leading researchers in the fields of engineering and technology. Having all stages of production under its full control makes Festka unique even in the industry’s boutique bike segment.
Nowadays, riding a Festka bike is a matter of pride for people from every corner of the globe. Everything that Festka does is driven by a single desire: to build extraordinary bicycles. FESTKA bicycles.
The X limited edition
To celebrate its 10th birthday, Festka produced ten limited edition pieces of each of its three best-selling models. The unifying features of their design schemes, created by the company’s uncompromising art director Tom Hnida, are naked carbon and 24-carat gold points, including Xs on the down tubes symbolizing the 10th anniversary as well as the number of limited edition pieces using the Roman numeral for 10. Each of the Xs is further marked by numbers 1-10 for each frame in the limited run.
The first bike in this limited edition, anniversary release is the Festka Scalatore X – Festka’s top-of-range road model and a true black carbon beauty. On this special occasion, it comes exclusively fitted with a carefully curated selection of components including SRM power meter cranks, a Darimo cockpit, and Lightweight wheels.
The second limited edition bike is Festka Doppler X. Launched in 2015, the Doppler gradually became an iconic model for Festka. Going against the flow in the small world of frames that combine titanium and carbon, Festka used titanium on straight tubes and made carbon joints, while other manufacturers chose the opposite design.
The anniversary model features a unique finish. The titanium tubes are coated using the Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) technology – a modern method of durable coating used in products exposed to friction and other causes of wear and tear. In this case, the effect is highly decorative, especially in combination with the sandblasted lines of this model’s underlying design scheme. This bike is offered with carefully selected components including Campagnolo Super Record 12s, Cane Creek titanium cranks, Carbon TI chainrings and disc brake rotors, Lightweight Wegweiser EVO wheels, and a Schmolke carbon cockpit. And the KMC chain is DLC coated too: for strength, resistance to corrosion, and reduced wear and friction.
The third and final anniversary bike is a fine specimen of the youngest model in the company fleet – the Festka Rover X. Originally introduced in 2018, it was a culmination of several years of R&D work and a number of partial steps towards making an off-road bike with drop bars and no suspension. Over time, the bikes of this type have become marked gravel. The model is equipped with an ENVE cockpit and SES wheels, a Selle Italia SLR Boost saddle, and a SRAM Force eTap Wide 2x groupset.
The first carbon frame – weighing a mere 730 grams – is produced using tube-to-tube technology.
Festka adds a stainless steel frame to its range and attends NAHBS for the first time.
Festka Zero – a carbon frame made with lugged joints – is launched. The company builds a frame for the Rapha Continental project and opens a workshop/showroom in the center of Prague.
Festka invites respected graphic designers and artists to participate in the creation of design motifs. Festka Art Edition is born. Festka Asphalt, a titanium race road bike providing a high level of comfort, and Festka ONE, the first carbon frame made with woven carbon fiber tubes, are introduced.
Festka Doppler offers a unique solution for joining titanium tubes using carbon lamination. It delivers a unique look and riding experience like no other frame on the market. Festka bikes debut on the track at the World Championships. Martin Blaha and Vojtech Hacecky come in sixth place in Paris.
Festka prototypes a gravel bike frame with a flat-mounted disc brake and uniquely shaped woven carbon filament chainstays. The Festka R&D team joins the European Space Agency BIC Prague incubator.
Festka Spectre – an all-out race frame – comes in both a road and track version. Its unique straight chainstays give Spectre exceptional stiffness. Spectre is ridden by the Dukla Praha track cycling team and several members of the Czech national team.
Working closely and extensively with the European Space Agency, Festka develops Scalatore – a frame that uniquely combines low weight, high stiffness, and comfort. It received the Design & Innovation Award that same year and made many early owners very happy.
Festka’s entry into the gravel bike world – the Rover – is launched after four years of development. The unique weaving pattern of the carbon filaments gives this frame stiffness and comfort riders will appreciate on rough roads.
Working closely with CompoTech – the co-developer and producer of the woven carbon fiber tubes with which Festka frames are built – the company starts a major R&D project whose objective is to review and – where possible – upgrade every tube used in its production process.

The Iconic Speedplay Pedal Returns With a Wahoo Upgrade
The New Wahoo Speedplay Line Offers Five Options for Road Cyclists and Triathletes Looking for High Performance, Dual-Sided Entry, and Pedal-Based Power Measurement.
Wahoo is proud to announce the first major refresh of the iconic Speedplay brand since the pedals were invented in a California garage 31 years ago.
The new Wahoo Speedplay line grows from technology first designed in 1989. Speedplay pedals are the world’s only high performance pedal designed specifically for road cycling and triathlon without relying on concepts and technology from other sports — and the only one to offer approachable dual-sided entry. Wahoo is also excited to announce the world’s first dual-sided, pedal-based power meter, the highly anticipated POWRLINK ZERO.
Refinements across the whole line will improve the performance and durability of Speedplay pedals. Revamped models have lower stack height and better aerodynamics than other systems, as well as adjustable float, spindle-length options, and the premium-level user experience that all Wahoo products are known for.
The new Wahoo Speedplay line includes the COMP ($149.99), Speedplay ZERO ($229.99), Speedplay NANO ($449.99), Speedplay AERO ($279.99), and the Wahoo POWRLINK ZERO power meter (price to be announced). The Speedplay line includes two cleat options: Standard Tension (included with ZERO, NANO, AERO, and POWRLINK ZERO), and Easy Tension (included with COMP). Both cleat options are compatible with all pedals in the new Speedplay lineup and are backwards compatible with all earlier Speedplay Zero models. The COMP, ZERO, NANO, and AERO are available for purchase today from Wahoo dealers and WahooFitness.com. POWRLINK ZERO will be available in summer 2021.
Performance upgrades include adjustable float on all cleats from 0-15 degrees, sealed bearings with no need for regular maintenance, and increased durability through a revised pedal body. Wrench flats have been eliminated in favor of installation via a hex wrench. The ZERO is also available in four spindle lengths from Speedplay dealers and fit specialists to ensure that all rider fit needs are covered.
“I’ve trusted Speedplay for much of my career for their reliability and ample opportunity to custom fit the position of my foot. I ride 20,000km in a year and the improvements Wahoo has made to the pedals gives me the confidence to know that my pedals will work perfectly still ensuring that my biomechanics work on the most important contact point with my bike,” said Ironman World Champion Jan Frodeno.
“Speedplay pedals give us an advantage over other pedal systems in weight, aerodynamics, and the adjustability of their cleat system. This combination gives our riders full confidence in their equipment on race day and lets them focus on the race ahead,” said EF – Education First Nippo Team Performance Manager Nate Wilson.
In 2020, the Education First — EF Pro Cycling Team rode Speedplay pedals to top finishes in World Tour races, including a podium finish at the Vuelta a España, picking up the World Tour legacy of a pedal that has won multiple monuments, including the Tour de France, Paris-Roubaix, Liège-Bastone-Liège, and Paris-Nice. In 2021, EF — Education First Nippo and Canyon//SRAM will continue to ride with Speedplay. Joining them in the pro peloton are Alex Dowsett and Owain Doull. Speedplay has also seen unparalleled success in triathlon, as the winningest pedal at the Kona Ironman World Championships and the choice of World Record holder Jan Frodeno.
● The new pedals are being supported by Wahoo’s existing sales organization, ensuring that cyclists can easily access Speedplay pedals via Wahoo dealers and WahooFitness.com.

Pirelli Presents the New P Zero Tyres Family
Four years after the launch of the first P ZERO Velo, the clincher that marked Pirelli’s return to the world of cycling, the company presents a new family of clincher tyres that will replace the current one. An upgrade that further enhances the performance of a real market difference.
Pirelli announces the arrival on the market of a new family of clincher tyres: it is called P ZEROTM and comes in the form of P ZERO Race, the product designed for pure performance, and P ZERO Road, the alternative for those looking for an all-round clincher more oriented towards durability.
The new tyres have the task of taking over from a true best seller: P ZERO Velo, the progenitor of the range, Pirelli’s first clincher, launched in June 2017. A replacement that is a deliberate choice, testifying to the evolution of Pirelli’s role in cycling: in just four years, in fact, the P ZERO Velo has become a benchmark, appreciated and rewarded by various independent tests, as well as by the choice of many enthusiasts around the world.
Today, Pirelli’s range of road clincher tyres has been renewed with the aim of offering even more grip, more smoothness and even more comfort. In addition, it has been brought into line with the new standards in the sector.
P Zero Race: The Clincher for Maximum Performance
Arriving chronologically after the P ZERO Race TLR and Race TLR SL, for reasons of market demand – which is now moving towards the tubeless option – the new P ZERO Race tyre is a clincher model, dedicated to pure performance.
From the point of view of tread design, the tyre is identical to the Tubeless Ready version of the same name, as is the compound Pirelli used for its rubber. P ZERO Race is made with the new SmartEVO Compound. Taking advantage of its over 110 years in motorsport as well, Pirelli has developed a ternary blend of functionalized polymers with “intelligent” behavioral characteristics, which are the basis of the exceptional properties of SmartEVO.
Each of the three polymers provides specific performance, ensuring a perfect balance of opposing characteristics, such as grip and rolling. The result? Improved grip on dry and wet surfaces and very low rolling resistance, resulting in smoothness and driveability. This high-performance compound has already been tested by the top World Tour teams of which Pirelli is a partner: AG2R Citroën, TREK-Segafredo and Team BikeExchange.
Completely new, however, is the construction of the casing, in 120 TPI Nylon, designed for use with an inner tube. The P ZERO Race has been adapted to the new ETRTO 19c rim standards (inner channel size). As a result, each size of the P ZERO Race tyres has a wider tread than the corresponding P ZERO Velo: a wider and more elongated footprint, for the benefit of rolling performance, puncture protection and control when cornering.
The carcass also features a wider protective belt. Called TechBelt Road, it is an additional layer of Aramid fabric, underneath the compound, that increases puncture protection in various conditions of use.
Available in 24, 26, 28 and 30 mm sizes, in black or with para rubber sidewalls (Classic), P ZERO Race will soon be available in a Colour Edition version too (yellow, red or white). This performance tyre dedicated to racing and long-distances will be at home on various ground surfaces, whether dry or wet, thanks to its exceptional chemical grip; from spring to late autumn.
The new clincher tyre is available in the best cycling shops and online, at the price of $69.90/€59.90
P ZERO Road: All-Round Performance
Completing the new range, the P ZERO Road clincher is oriented towards durability, without compromising smoothness and comfort. Specifically developed as a multi-purpose tyre, this all-round rubber is also built to fit the modern rims.
P ZERO Road differs from the Race version in its tread design, with closer and longer grooves, and in its compound, the EVO Compound, making it a more versatile tyre. This new clincher tyre offers low rolling resistance, excellent grip, high comfort and durability.
P ZERO Road is available in Black, in sizes 24, 26, 28 mm, at the price of $49.90/€39.90
The new carcass construction of the P ZERO family tyres makes it important to use recommended pressures and appropriate rims. For this reason, in all its literature, online and on the packaging of the new P ZERO Race and P ZERO Road, Pirelli provides detailed and precise indications regarding both the actual dimensions in relation to the rim and the recommended inflation pressures based on the rim channel used and the weight of the rider.
